In search of ... Exploitation Films. |
Edit: Revised list found at the bottom of this thread...seeing as how I can update everything but the attachment.
Following a bit of inspiration from my friend billbarstad and his serial list, I want to do he same thing for Exploitation Films. Sadly, while this is a genre that I regularly enjoy, my search-fu on IA regularly fails. Honestly, genres should recieve their own "collection", even if there aren't 50 of them on here. But that's me.
So far, I have the standards. Reefer Madness (all 4 copies) and the rest of Dwain Esper's fare. Though I am surprised that his film, "Narcotic!: (1933), isn't here. Of course, "The Terrible Truth", "Perversion for Profit", and so on. (Apparently, Tod Browning's "Freaks" has been taken down. I can't find it anywhere.
So, if you could please help me and post links to the one's you know about and/or like, another fantastic type of American film will have some kind of centralized representation/organization.
I've attached my rough, slightly unorganized master list that I'm compiling. I'll organize and create a master post, similar for the one that exists for the Serials genre.
Thank you!
Elric

Re: In search of ... Exploitation Films. |
I've browsed Prelinger man times, usually looking for Cold War scare classics, Like "Duck & Cover". I've already added he few that I could find in there and across IA. Like I said (and probably said poorly), my search-fu hasn't been that great, but at the same time, exploitation films as a genre is so broad, I really don't know most of it. Hence the appeal for people so shoot me links to their favorites.
Either way, THANK YOU!!! I had no idea "Boys Beware" was even posted here! I've heard of it, but never seen it; so I'm snagging it as I write this. I hope it's ever bit as good as "The Flaming Urge" (which I just watched and reviewed, last night).

Here's a counterpoint:
http://www.archive.org/details/girls_bewareAnother Sid Davis "classic."
If you haven't already, use his name asa search term. Lots of his work is here, although I'm not sure that it all qualifies as "exploitation."

Test Tube Babies has a Mill Creek Entertainment Logo that pops up once and a while.
Should it be removed, or should I keep quiet?

Re: In search of ... Exploitation Films. |
There are several movies here where I've seen logos. For that reason I don't think it matters much. Maybe someone (Moongleam?) can process them out and repost it sometime.

e.g. - I watched "The Hitch-Hiker", last night, and noticed that at the very end of the file is the Kino International logo thing.

Anything else? Thoughts? It's getting close to 50 films.

Re: Exploitation Films: Updated raw master list. |
Nice list!
IA also has a very respectable collection of Juvenile Delinquent exploitation films, mostly from the late fifties/early sixties: sensationalized thrills peddled under the pretext of "informing" the public about the menace of beatniks, bikers, and disobedient youth in general:
http://www.archive.org/details/the_beatnikshttp://www.archive.org/details/The_Bloody_Brood_moviehttp://www.archive.org/details/TeenageWolfpackhttp://www.archive.org/details/TheWildRidehttp://www.archive.org/details/TheRebelSet1959_754http://www.archive.org/details/TheBlackRebels1960http://www.archive.org/details/TeenageDevilDollshttp://www.archive.org/details/HighSchoolCaesarhttp://www.archive.org/details/TheChoppershttp://www.archive.org/details/DelinquentDoughtershttp://www.archive.org/details/HotRodGirlhttp://www.archive.org/details/TeenageThunderhttp://www.archive.org/details/HighSchoolBigShothttp://www.archive.org/details/JailBaitI don't know whether you want to include the spate of "Sasquatchploitation" quickies that came out in the mid-70's to capitalize on the then-current bigfoot craze:
http://www.archive.org/details/CurseOfBigfoothttp://www.archive.org/details/Snowbeast_436maybe even
http://www.archive.org/details/the_legend_of_boggy_creekMore miscellaneously,
http://www.archive.org/details/ChainedforLife (what's more exploitative than a carnival sideshow?); and
http://www.archive.org/details/MesaOfLostWomen also has a strong exploitation vibe. If more of Ron Ormand's films, like Teenage Bride (aka Please Don't Touch Me), were pd, they'd certainly belong on your list.
Finally,
http://www.archive.org/details/TwoThousandManiacs1964 has been hanging around for a while, but I don't think it's pd.
Again, nice list. You're performing a public service!

There is no renewal listed for
Two Thousand Maniacs at USCO, but registrations didn't have to be renewed after 1963. It would only be PD if it doesn't contain a valid notice.

There is a notice under the title at 2:34, but I can't tell if it's valid...it's basically illegible due to picture quality.

Re: In search of ... Exploitation Films. |
YAY! More JD films!!! They've been added. Sadly, "Delinquent Daughters" appears has been yanked.
Sasquatchploitation (say that 7 times fast) is fine. I'm applying Wikipedias rather broad definition, over top of my own very basic definition ("If it plays on a mostly unfounded fear, then it's exploitation"). So, yeah. Nunsploitaton, Blaxploitation, Cannibal, JD, all of it.
Updated list to be posted shortly.

Re: In search of ... Exploitation Films |
It must've been wandered off for lunch on another server. I got the "can't find it" message half a dozen times when I originally went to look for it.
Added, and that makes 61!

Exploitation Films: Updated raw list, 09-23. |
Here's the updated list. There are now 60 unique titles present.
Just a little note. As far as what I'm looking for, I'm basically taking my very basic definition ("If it plays on a mostly unfounded fear, then it's exploitation"), but following Wikipedia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploitation_films ) for which sub-genres to include. Some that they include are obviously not going to be added here, due to graphic sexual content.
I'll give this another few days and then I'll start to seriously organize it into a postable, workable list.
